Towards zero waste: Sustainable waste management in aquaculture

Increases in aquaculture production due to higher demand for aquatic foods result an increase the amount of wastewater. This situation highlights need effective treatment wastewater sustainable aquaculture. Today, instead traditional physical and chemical methods originating from aquaculture, ecosystem-sensitive by-product-oriented systems have begun be adopted. The main principle zero-waste approach is recycling nutrients produce another food. In this new innovative approach, other organisms different trophic levels using integrated multi-trophic (such as aquaponics) possible recycle nutrients. It has been considered (IMTA) more valuable these can used both environment-friendly conversion biomass. such nitrogen phosphorus utilized two (i.e. fish+mussel) or three fish+mussel+seaweed) through IMTA.
